Patterned Patchwork Backsplash in a Terrell Hills Kitchen
Blue and gray patchwork backsplash behind a professional gas range
Walkthrough of the install
Deliberate pattern composition, not random
Patchwork tiles ship in boxes and the installer decides what goes where. We dry-laid the whole backsplash on the floor first, moved the most dramatic patterns around so they'd be evenly spaced, and only then set anything in mortar. The field reads as a composed collection rather than a random dump.
Protecting the install behind a gas range
Behind a pro gas range the tile sees heat, grease, and the occasional direct impact from a pan being set down too hard. We used a porcelain-based patchwork tile (not cement — cement patchwork stains from oil within a year behind a cooktop) and an epoxy grout in the splatter zone. The install will clean up with a sponge for the next decade.
Edge termination at the under-cabinet line
The backsplash runs cleanly to the under-cabinet lighting with a bullnose finish where it ends. On the open side we used a factory bullnose edge rather than a cut edge or metal trim. The pattern ends and the wall takes over without an awkward transition piece.
